Words from the Chief Strategy Officer
The World Is Moving at Machine Speed. Are We Ready?
I hope you had a chance to slow down and recharge this summer. And to those of you who kept watch while others were away, thank you!
Cyber threats certainly didn’t take the summer off. What I have seen over the past few months has reinforced something I have been thinking about for a while: we are entering a machine-speed world, while much of cybersecurity is still built for human speed.
AI and automation are changing both sides of the equation. Attackers can move faster, while defenders have new opportunities to detect, decide, and respond at a speed that simply wasn’t possible before. I recently spoke with a CISO who told me that in just six months, he had completely changed his view on automated response. Today, he would be comfortable automating response across more than 70% of his systems. I think he is far from alone.
A question worth asking this fall. As many of us head into planning and budgeting season, I believe we need to challenge some of our assumptions. Are your security programs design for the world we are entering, or the world we are leaving behind?
For me, three questions stand out:
- Are we ready to respond at machine speed?
- Where can we safely move from human intervention to automated response?
- Are we investing enough in securing AI, not just adopting it?
These are conversations I look forward to having with many of you this fall. Cybersecurity has always been a team effort. As the pace increases, that collaboration becomes even more important.
